Well, I feel I have to say a few words in defence of the moon. Sadly, it has become established practice to interpret the moon card in a negative way. As far as I'm concerned, the moon reminds to get in touch with our instincts. After all, it regulates fertility cycles of all living beings, including women. It invites us to make a shift from our heads to our abdomen or hara, which is our natural point of equilibrium. Over here in our Western industrialised culture we have been trained to live our life in our heads, and this makes us top heavy. It's perfect that the moon and the moon goddess appear together. This is the call of the goddess to listen to our instincts and and get in touch with our deeply held emotions. It's not a time for rationality but for reflection on the deep mysteries of life. Our dreams can be very vivid, especially under the influence of the full moon. We need to heed what they reveal to us as they reach places the rational mind could never reach.

It occurs to me that it might help for you to have some context regarding the position of the Moon in Minoan spirituality. While many western neo-pagans are familiar with the idea of a Sun God and Moon Goddess, not all cultures have that pair. In fact, the older combination is a Sun Goddess and a Moon God. That's what we find in the Minoan pantheon: the Sun Goddess Therasia and the Moon God Minos. Minos is, in a sense, the judge of the dead, but what he really does is help us cut through our illusions and self-deceptions to see what's really there. In the end, this is always a helpful thing. If you're interested in the concept of Sun Goddesses and Moon Gods, I can recommend the book O Mother Sun! by Patricia Monaghan. It's out of print but readily available at used booksellers.

That's very interesting, thank you very much. Yes I am indeed interested in sun goddesses, as in my culture (German/Scandinavian), the sun is female as well. I've been thinking about climate change and that, apparently, our temperature/climate zone is moving north by 5 metres per year. It's only a question of time until central Europe has Mediterranean weather, and then Britain and Scandinavia. The Minoans will be able to teach us a thing or two when the time comes.

That is indeed a lovely way to interpret this card, and is good advice in general. But my Minoan Tarot deck has specific meanings for each card that don't always align with the ways others like to interpret the cards, and I share those meanings when I post the weekly cards. Of course, when you're doing readings for yourself, you're welcome to interpret the cards however you like, and you should do that so your readings are more meaningful for you. But I stick to the "official" meanings when I share the weekly cards. Also, that's not a goddess on the card, but a human woman. The identification of the human and deity figures on the cards is included in the descriptions of the art in the deck's companion book.

Okay, I'll bite. You said ask you about extrapolating in the wrong direction I think? :)

It was a sarcastic comment, because it's something I've done before. You know what it's like when you're worrying about something and your brain runs ninety miles a minute, building scenarios about all the horrible things that are bound to happen. Sometimes, my brain generates scenarios that for some reason sound plausible to me, and maybe even to other people I share them with. But they're dead wrong, and making plans based on them is worse than useless, because it not only wastes time and energy on something that *isn't* going to happen, but it ignores whatever *is* likely to happen. I've learned the hard way to look very closely at where my reasoning is coming from, and whether it's really reasoning or just anxiety running amok - sometimes it's hard to tell the difference. That's when divination tools like Tarot, oracle cards, runes, and bones come in handy, because they can do an end run around whatever my conscious mind is tangled up with.
