This week's Minoan Tarot cards:
Justice: No one is an island. Every decision we make affects others, on both a small and large scale. Make your choices openly and honestly with the understanding that the best decisions reflect the underlying divine order of the universe.
Three of Daggers: New beginnings show promise. Trying new things and exploring new possibilities will pay off for you, giving you a "first harvest" in the short run and good prospects for the long term.
You can find deck details and lots more card images here.
I’m not surprised to find the Justice card turning up today, and you probably aren’t, either.
It took me quite a while to find a Minoan work of art that I felt encapsulated the concepts behind this card. Eventually, I settled on this adorable little figurine that was found in the Minoan tombs at Kamilari, near the city of Phaistos:
This artifact is sometimes called the Kamilari Dancers, since the archaeologists first thought the people in the figurine were doing a circle dance. But the consensus now is that they’re stomping grapes in a vat, an explanation that makes more sense to me given the way the model is designed.
After much thought I decided to paint these figures as male on the Tarot card, but their gender in the original figurine is questionable or indeterminate. It’s hard to see from this photo (sorry, but I don’t have any other public domain photos of this one) but all the figures appear to be naked, they all have penises, and at least two of them have breasts. This is an aspect of Minoan art that isn’t discussed very often, probably due to modern cultural discomfort with concepts like nonbinary and trans identity. But this isn’t the only example of this sort, which I find interesting.
Back to the meaning as it pertains to this card: Notice how all four of the grape-stompers have their arms interlinked. So every time one of them moves, their movement affects all the others.
They’re all interconnected, just like we are, just like the whole universe is.
So every decision we make and every action we take affects others. We’re seeing that, writ large, in politics and climate issues right now. But it works on a personal, individual scale as well, and it scales up as people make choices and take actions that reinforce each other.
This card is a reminder that, as individuals, we do have some power in the world, and even more so when we work together. So make your decisions and choose your course of action with that in mind, and hopefully we’ll push the dial toward a more compassionate world, one small move at a time.
Today’s second card is a little breather from the Big Stuff, thankfully. I don’t know about you, but I’ve had about enough Big Stuff lately. As always, I drew the second card from the bottom of the deck, and it offers ideas for dealing with whatever the first card throws at us. It’s the “secret sauce” of the reading, if you will.
The Three of Daggers points to new beginnings and first fruits. This is about exploring new territory, with the expectation that our initial moves into new ideas and activities will be successful and will pay off, either literally or figuratively.
I’m not talking about major life changes here. But there might be smaller things you’ve been thinking about trying out, getting your feet wet, so to speak. This could have to do with your work life, but it could just as well be some kind of hobby or pleasure activity that helps you find balance and expression. Daggers is the Fire suit, after all.
What small passion would you like to explore and indulge right now? Where might that lead you as time goes on?
I wish you a week of interconnectedness and gentle exploration!

Fire applied in the right way is just what is needed right now, and justice goes without saying.
My take on the gender of figures is...the rightside figure looks male. The figure at the back looks like it has a cleft and breasts in other shots. So I think it's alternating men and women. The figure in the foreground has a tiny waist with roundish hips (female). What do you think?
