A lot of the time, when I do my usual two-card draw on Monday, I get messages about the challenges of the upcoming week: problems that might crop up, issues to look out for. The cards are sometimes helpful in providing advice about how to deal with those problems. But still, most days I want to cringe as I turn the cards over.
It can be easy to slip into a pattern of focusing on the hard stuff, the bumps and potholes in the ol’ proverbial road of life. I mean, those things do tend to “prioritize themselves,” as my partner puts it.
And the pace and values of modern life in western industrial society definitely doesn’t encourage us to take a breath and slow down. Heavens, that might mean that for a few seconds, we’re not producing value for the capitalist system!
So I was delighted when I turned over these two cards this morning. These cards offer a suggestion that taking time out and shifting our focus will be especially restorative right now.
Sadly, I can’t just go galumphing off into the countryside - I do have clients and deadlines and appointments. But I can make an effort to refocus my thoughts and quit hurrying so much. The way we do things can be as important as what we’re doing.
Today’s cards:
Four of Labryses: Rest, refuge, and recovery. Sometimes we have to push ahead no matter what, and sometimes we need to stop, chill, and take the time to replenish our inner reserves. This cards says that now is the time to rest. Take advantage of the opportunity while you can.
Lord of Rhytons: Allow yourself to get caught up in the beauty of life. Yes, I'm saying you should stop and smell the roses. We get so caught up in the things we *have* to do, sometimes we forget that there are things we *like* to do. Find the beauty in your life and make the time to really enjoy it.
I hope you find beauty in your day, and I hope it sustains and restores you.
