I normally draw two Tarot cards for the week on Monday and share them on social media. I’ve been doing this for a while now. Every now and then, a card “jumps” out of the deck as I’m shuffling. Most people who read Tarot and oracle cards have had this happen to them.
This morning as I was shuffling, a clump of three cards leapt out of the stack and landed neatly on my desk.
It figures the cards would do something “extra” on Eclipse Day.
The last time we had a Great American Eclipse, in 2017, this deck had only just been published a few months earlier. It wasn’t until some time later that I started posting weekly card draws online. And I honestly don’t remember what my personal Tarot reading looked like for that day. I may not even have done one, since we were busy getting ready to drive up to a friend’s house so we could be in good viewing range for the eclipse.
Eclipses are both astronomical and astrological phenomena. But we as humans also build up a lot of energy around events like this, “extra” energy that adds on to what nature and the cosmos are already providing. Yesterday, I could practically feel the buzz from all those people who were traveling to the totality zone, just like my family did in 2017.
We’re a part of the system, you know. We’re not separate from it. So when we get excited about a cosmological event, our energy becomes a part of the event, a part of the phenomenon. We add on to what’s already there, weaving ourselves into the fabric of the experience.
Whether or not you’re in viewing range, whether or not you’re doing anything special today, I hope it’s the beginning of an excellent week for you!
The cards:
Lady of Daggers: Let your passion and your ideals drive you this week. Don't settle for the lowest common denominator: push toward your potential, and encourage those around you to do the same. But be sure not to let those high standards prevent you from seeing the possibilities; don't write off people and situations just because they're not perfect. The key is to find the balance between the ideal and the possible.
The Empress: Lead with your empathy and compassion this week, and focus on your interdependence and connection with others. Allow yourself the time and patience to see things from other people's points of view, even if you disagree with them, so you can understand them better. This will open the way for you to joyfully receive the bounty that life offers while giving you the ability to more readily accept the chaos and messiness that life always involves.
The Moon: It's time to let go of some of the illusions you've been holding onto. We all do it: we create imagined realities in order to deal with the difficult situations life throws at us. It's a sort of defense mechanism. But some of those imaginings no longer serve you, and it's time to thank them for cushioning you against life's bumps and bruises, and let them gently go.
The Minoan Tarot is an 86-card deck I created, with art I drew and painted by hand in the style of the ancient Minoan frescoes. The court cards are gender balanced, and the deck comes in a beautiful presentation box along with a full-color 176-page companion book. The Minoan Tarot website offers photos of many of the cards as well as more details about the deck. It took me three years to create the artwork for the deck; I hope it offers you a lifetime of enjoyment!
