Wouldn’t it be nice if everything would stay the same for a while? We wouldn’t have to shift and adapt and keep finding our footing again.
But life’s not like that. Even during eras like the middle of the twentieth century, when life in the industrialized west looked pretty stable, people’s individual lives still had their ups and downs.
It can be pleasant to daydream about a life where there are no surprises, where everything is predictable. And sometimes we need to retreat to that kind of space for quiet healing.
But living that way all the time would drive me nuts.
I need a certain amount of newness, different-ness from day to day.
Granted, sometimes I wish it would slow down (hence the comment above about needing to retreat to a place of stillness every now and then). But life is what it is, and we do our best to “get our sea legs” and learn to balance on the deck of a rocking ship.
I find it helps to have something to hold onto, to steady myself no matter how much the ship sways. For me, that’s deity and family.
What do you hold onto, to steady yourself in the midst of life’s changes?
Two of Horns: Life is about change. Most of the time, those changes are smallish and not earth-shattering. But they can still be disconcerting. This card is a reminder that these changes are normal and natural, and that ultimately there will be gains to offset any losses. So do your best to loosen up and go with the flow.
Fate: Even though the changes right now may be small, there are cosmic forces at work to move you along. This is both a warning that some of the consequences of this change may be unexpected, and a reassurance that it's all part of a normal, natural cycle. So let the parts of the puzzle shift around; don't fight it. And you'll find your balance again soon.
The Minoan Tarot is an 86-card deck I created, with art I drew and painted by hand in the style of the ancient Minoan frescoes. The court cards are gender balanced, and the deck comes in a beautiful box along with a full-color 176-page companion book. The Minoan Tarot website offers photos of many of the cards as well as more details about the deck. It took me three years to create the artwork for the deck; I hope it offers you a lifetime of enjoyment!
I’ve been enjoying your tarot posts for a while now and I was lucky enough to visit last years Ashmolean Museum exhibition on the Minoans in Oxford. Finally ordered the deck to add to my 100+ others and looking forward to getting to know it. Thanks for all your insights.
