Today’s cards are all about decisions and their consequences. How apropros, considering that it’s Memorial Day today here in the US, the day we honor and remember all the people who died serving in the US military. Those of us who agree with the Dalai Lama that all wars are unjust wars also look forward to the day when there is no longer a need for Memorial Day.
In the meantime, we deal with our lives in the environment that’s already here. This week’s cards speak to the need to make decisions that take into account the consequences of the choices, recognizing that we’re not who we used to be, even if the situations we need to make decisions about are pulling up memories for us.
While this is good advice for us in our individual lives - and I’ll certainly be keeping an eye out this week so I can make any necessary choices in an open and honest way - this is also good advice for making larger-scale decisions. Like when we vote, or when our leaders make decisions in the course of their jobs.
No, I’m not holding my breath that any politician will magically give a crap about what happens down the line from any decision they make, besides making sure they keep that corporate-lobby money coming in.
But they should. We all know it. Heck, even they know it. But that’s not how the system works… right now.
As I’ve noted before, it hasn’t always been this way:
So while I’m working on taking care of my own life decisions in an honorable way, I also have hope that we’ll eventually find our way back to a better system on a larger scale. We just have to keep at it, just like we have to keep working on our own individual lives.
This week’s cards:
Justice: Cause and effect; consequences. Justice means making decisions as a reflection of the underlying divine order and acknowledging that you are responsible for the choices you make. Is there a decision you need to make? Doing so openly and honestly is the best path, since any decision one of us makes affects us all. This doesn't mean everyone has to be happy with your decision. You just need to do what you feel is right.
Six of Rhytons: Nostalgia, memories of the past. Don't let rosy-hued memories influence rational decision-making. The past is past; view it through a lens of clarity. You're no longer in that past situation. You're not the same person anymore, so you no longer need to respond the way you would have then. Make your choices based on who you are now.
