In the cards this week: clear thought

Time to be in your right mind!

There’s a limit to the number of variations in a two-card spread. Still, looking back at the weekly Tarot draws that I’ve shared here, there are plenty of different combinations: one Major Arcana card and one Minor, or two Minors from different suits. Every once in a while, I’ll get two Majors, when Big Stuff is going down.

When two Minors from the same suit show up, like they did today, I take that as a pointer toward the suit’s element as a way to filter my daily life activities and decisions.

Today we have two Labryses, the Air suit in this deck. Although the suit symbols might not be immediately clear to you since they don’t match the better-known Waite-Smith and Thoth suit symbols, the color is always a good reminder. The four suits follow the standard color structure: red = Fire, blue = Water, gold = Air, green = Earth.

So today we have a couple of Air sign cards, including the Ace - the cardinal card (ha!) of this suit.

Let’s be honest, emotions are running pretty high these days, between politics and climate change (we’re fine, Hurricane Helene did very little damage right in our neighborhood) and the economy and so on. We swim in those emotions day after day, and eventually they affect our ability to think clearly and make good decisions.

To me, today’s cards are a reminder that even though it might be difficult, it’s time to take a step back and view whatever situation you’re currently facing with as much rationality and mental acuity as you can muster. Sometimes, looking at the black-and-white on the paper, at what’s really there, can help dispel enough of the anxiety to allow us to think clearly and do what needs to be done.

This week’s cards:

Ace of Labryses: Let your mind lead you this week. You may need to puzzle out the solution to a problem, setting emotion aside and working only with the facts. You may find yourself coming up with new ideas that work better than the old ones. Regardless, lean on your ability to think things through clearly and in detail, then follow through on your ideas.

Eight of Labryses: There are solutions to be found, even if you can't see them at the moment. This card suggests that your thinking is less than clear, that you're not seeing what's really there, possibly because of anxiety or because you have preconceived notions about what a solution could look like. Take a step back and reassess the situation from a purely factual stance, and you'll see the way out.
