I live in the US, and I’m not surprised this pair of cards turned up today. These two cards encapsulate some powerful concepts. For those of you who have somehow missed the constant barrage of political news and advertising, tomorrow is election day in the US. This year it’s quite a nail-biter, with lots at stake.
These cards don’t predict the winner of the election. Either way, whoever wins, there will be big change that we’ll all have to deal with.
I suspect that a lot of us are dealing with the possibility of major change in our personal lives as well. The “tides” of the macro and micro worlds tend to be in sync more often than not, in my experience.
While change can be anxiety-inducing, especially if we can’t tell for sure what the outcome will look like, it’s often an opportunity as much as a problem. The Death card tells us that the change we’re facing is inevitable (oh joy) but The High Priest tells us that we have the tools to deal with it and possibly use it to redirect aspects of our own lives in ways that we find satisfying or helpful.
“Stepping into your personal power” is a common phrase these days, but for many of us, it’s easier said than done. Maybe we’ve been told we’re not powerful or smart or capable. Maybe we’re exhausted from dealing with everything that life has thrown at us. Maybe we’re not sure who we want to be or how we want our lives to look.
Moments of change are doorways, when the old pattern has dissolved but the new one hasn’t formed yet. This can be a time for contemplation as well as action, a time to figure out who and how you want to be.
The High Priest suggests taking action. What I suggest, and what I’ll be doing myself, is that in the space between these two cards, in the moment between the change and the next step forward, we take the time to listen to our hearts, our inner wisdom, our higher self, whatever you want to call it — and decide which direction we want that next step to head in.
Then we can take the next step with courage and let it be the first one in our new journey.
This week’s cards:
Death: Not literal death, but figurative: change so great, you can't predict what it's going to look like on the other side. The unknown can be scary. But life is about changes, big and small. Don't waste your energy fighting against it. Give in and let it transform you.
The High Priest: Where do your abilities lie? What do you really want to do with your life? Create a clear vision of who you really are and what you're capable of. Tap into your personal power and use it to shape your life path. You're capable of more than you think.
