What a wonderfully practical pair of cards we have this week! Sometimes Tarot can be quite nebulous, which can be frustrating when we want solid advice and firm answers. This week, the cards deliver.
Even though they’re from two different suits, both cards direct our thoughts to the way we exist in the world and how we interact with it. It can be easy to forget how connected we are with the rest of existence. The modern world encourages the illusion of separation, but it’s only an illusion.
No one is an island, as the saying goes.
The world is full of obvious and not-so-obvious connections. Six degrees of separation, the butterfly flapping its wings in Tokyo, and all that. Paying attention to the connections rather than to the illusion of separation can change your experience of the world in profound ways.
That’s why I draw the two weekly cards the way I do, one from the top of the deck and one from the bottom.
To me, one of the major uses of divination tools of any sort is to help us see what we can’t normally see. But there are layers to that, depths to the less-visible aspects of our experience (or perhaps, to the aspects that we avoid looking at — we’re only human).
So when I draw the cards each week, I pull one from the top as a preliminary look at what to keep any eye out for, what to pay attention to. The more obvious aspects of life, if you will. Then I draw a second card from the bottom of the deck, because there’s always something hidden below the surface, something that we can’t see or don’t want to see, that would be helpful to know.
So this week, there’s the more direct advice about allowing ourselves to change our minds as we encounter new information, allowing our worldview to be fluid rather than fixed.
But there’s also a reminder that we’re part of the world, not separate from it. We’re not objective observers on the outside — because there is no “outside.” And no matter how challenging or strange our experiences become, we can still ground ourselves in the world, literally and figuratively. And that can make dealing with all the other stuff a little easier.
This week’s cards:
Lord of Labryses: It's OK to be decisive and to hold strong opinions. Just be sure to allow your opinions to change as new information comes in. The world is not a static place, and you need to allow your view of it to change as it changes.
Ace of Horns: Ground yourself in the material world and allow your practicality and good sense to direct your actions. This doesn't mean you need to be somber and serious all the time. The physical world includes the pleasures of the body and of physical expression. So allow yourself to manifest an expression of who you really are, and enjoy the process.
