This week's Minoan Tarot cards:
Youth of Rhytons: Genuine affection and loving kindness. Don't let yourself feel awkward or ashamed about expressing this to others. It shows your beautiful true self and is a blessing to the world, especially in uncertain times.
Six of Rhytons: Look to the past for advice about how to handle the present. History doesn't repeat itself, but it rhymes. Look back to figure out how best to move forward. That may mean doing something that was done before, but it may also mean avoiding repeating the errors of the past.
As I was shuffling the cards this morning, I specifically asked to be shown ways to deal with all the !@#$% the Big World is throwing at us right now. I find it interesting that I ended up with two Water cards, when it feels like emotions are already overwhelming at this point.
I’m in the US, where the (pardon my English) political shitfuckery is at an all-time high. What goes on here affects the rest of the world, of course, but it’s especially disturbing at close range.
So the advice the cards offer today tells me something very important: that following your heart is the key to managing these Interesting Times.
Yes, we need to calmly analyze the situation and stay grounded and maybe even dredge up some passion to get working on solutions.
But more than that, right now we need to embrace our humanity, our connection with each other, our caring and compassion and kindness.
Now is the time to let people know you care. To practice random acts of kindness, anonymous or otherwise. To be kind and to defiantly wear your heart on your sleeve.
Loving and caring can be radical acts in a world that values cold calculation over empathy.
Now is also the time to look back across history — recent times and further back — to see how other people, our ancestors and their generations, dealt with similar situations.
What worked for them and what didn’t work? How should we view that information based on what the world looks like now?
We’re here because our ancestors survived all those previous sets of Interesting Times, all the way back to the beginning of humanity. They are with us, in our blood and in our bones — on their shoulders we stand.
No matter where you’re from, no matter where your ancestors are from, they have lessons to teach about survival. About getting through it all. About holding onto what really matters: the love we have for each other.
May this week find you with a heart full of caring and affection, for yourself and others.
