Doing divination for the upcoming year is a longstanding tradition on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
I often lay out a large Tarot spread as well as a comprehensive Lenormand tableau, and I may even consult some oracle cards; I’m especially fond of the Magic of Nature Oracle cards that my dear friend Sheena Cundy and her sister Tania Copsey created.
But each year also comes in smaller increments: months, weeks, days, hours… We live our lives from moment to moment, after all.
So I’m beginning this year with my usual two cards for the upcoming week. This first week is enough to chew on for the moment, I think. On to bigger things later.
I’ve seen a few people complaining about having the year start on a Monday, since poor Monday - the Moon’s own day - has such a bad reputation, what with being the first workday in most weeks.
But for at least some of us, today is a holiday, a last chance for rest before springing forward into a whole new calendar year.
So let’s start by contemplating a couple of Minoan Tarot cards, which just happen to have a supportive message for us all.
Today’s Cards:
Lady of Horns: You have the patience and self-control to take it slow and examine each situation carefully before deciding how to act. Examine all the angles and don't rush into any decisions. You won't lose any genuine opportunities by taking your time. Don't let anyone pressure you into moving too fast.
Strength: Look at the bull-leaper here. It takes more than just physical strength to do what she's doing. It takes mental fortitude, strength of will, focus, and resolve. This card is telling you that you have the inner strength to slow down, control yourself, and be patient. This is the path not just to success but to the enjoyment of it.
The Minoan Tarot is an 86-card deck with art in the style of the ancient Minoan frescoes. The court cards are gender balanced, and the deck comes in a beautiful box along with a full-color 176-page companion book. The Minoan Tarot website offers photos of many of the cards as well as more details about the deck. It took me three years to create the artwork for the deck; I hope it offers you a lifetime of enjoyment!
Happy New Year and thank you for the first reading! Two ladies showing us the way forward, that's women's power! Taking the bull by his horns is a very apt metaphor for the times we life in, in so many ways! This year is also the year of the dragon (my birth year), so we're given a lot of umph for the year to come!
