Expanding the Minoan sacred calendar
We've added a season, but not the kind you probably think
One of the interesting aspects of developing a living spiritual practice is that sometimes, you don’t know what you’re missing until you find it.
That was the case in Ariadne’s Tribe with our Sun Goddess Therasia. Since Sun Goddesses aren’t that common anymore, it literally took us several years to figure out that there should be one in the Minoan family of deities.
But once we realized there was an empty spot where she belonged, we were able to find her and connect with her.
Now we’ve discovered another “empty spot” that we’ve filled, coincidentally (or not!) with a celebration of Therasia.
It’s a sacred season. Not a climatological season like spring or autumn, but a number of days, a length of time that leads up to a very special holy day: Winter Solstice.
On Solstice morning, Therasia’s death and rebirth are framed by the moment of Midwinter sunrise.
But the time leading up to that profound moment is, in itself, meaningful and potent. I encourage you to read about our new season in today’s Minoan Path blog post:
Therasia’s Labor: Midwinter Solar Rebirth
May your days be filled with joy!
