A couple of days ago I posted my first book review on this Substack. But it’s not the first time I’ve reviewed books - far from it.
So I thought I’d gather up a few links in case you’d like to peruse some of my earlier reviews of both fiction and non-fiction titles. This Substack is kind of new, but my blogging (which includes book reviews) goes back many years.
For a listing of the books I reviewed on my now-defunct-but-still-archived website blog, go here. (I’ve moved that blog activity onto this Substack and closed the website blog, but I’ve left all the posts up.)
Back in the day, I had a blog going on Blogspot (yes, I’m that old lol) that included book reviews. They’re still hanging around online, and you can find them here.
I’ve written about my book review mindset before, but I’ll summarize it here as well.
I review both fiction and non-fiction titles that are self-published or from small publishers because those need more of a boost in the noisy, crowded marketplace than books from big publishers do.
Most of the fiction I review has magical, witchy, Pagan-ish and/or fantasy themes, but it spans a wide gamut of genres. Most of the non-fiction I review has Pagan, witchy, or magical subject matter.
I don’t post negative book reviews, though I am willing to add honest criticism to an otherwise positive review, and I do that from time to time. If I don’t like a book, that might just be my personal taste, and someone else might love it. It’s hard enough for authors to be heard these days without my dragging them down. So I only review books that I enjoy.
I am willing to accept review copies of books that fall into the categories I’ve described above, but I can’t promise I’ll get to them by any specific date - my TBR list is continually and dangerously full. But you’re always welcome to ask.
What are you reading right now that you would recommend?
